Bull's Island Recreation Area is located on Daniel Bray Highway (Route 29) in Hunterdon County, 7 miles north of Lambertville, New Jersey (Click here to view/print/download road map ~ File Size 316KB). The Bull's Island campground is the only area within the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park where camping is permitted.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to past flood events, 26 campsites are no longer available. Please refer to the map below to view the 43 sites that are currently open for use. Those sites are highlighted in yellow.

FACILITIES
There are 69 campsites. The campground has toilet and shower facilities, drinking water and a dumping station. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. There are no electric or water hookups.
SEASON
The campground is open April 1st - October 31st, with a fee of $20 night/campsite. Check-out time is 12 noon. Re-registration must be done by 10 am on the day the site is due out.
RESERVATIONS
All sites are reservable for at least 2 but no more that 14 consecutive nights. No more than 2 non-consecutive reservations/permits, per individual or family, may be in effect in a calendar year. Reservations may be made in person, by mail, or by telephone. Reservations may be cancelled up to 48 hours before permit is in effect, but a cancellation fee ($40, or 2 nights stay - whichever is less) will be deducted from any refund. Return the permit and provide a written request for a refund.
PAYMENT
Payment in full, $20 per night must accompany each reservation application. Checks/money orders must be made payable to the Treasure, State of New Jersey. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted. If a reservation cannot be granted, full payment will be promptly returned.
CHECK-IN
All campers must check in at the office upon arrival. If the office is closed upon arrival, check-in by 9 am the following morning.
CHECK-OUT
Campsite check out time is 12:00 PM. Please be considerate of the next camper and make sure to leave on time.
OCCUPANCY
The individual signing the permit must occupy the site. To prevent overcrowding of the facility, there is a limit of persons (6) and/or equipment (2 tents, 2 vehicles, including trailers) per site.
MINIMUM AGE
A campsite permit will not be issued to anyone under the age of 18.
LIMIT OF STAY
All overnight facilities are limited to an initial stay of 14 consecutive nights. Additional stays of up to 7 consecutive nights may be granted only after the permittee has vacated the campground for a period of at least 7 days. Camping is limited to a maximum of 40 nights in a calendar year.
FIRES
Ground fires are restricted to the fire rings and may be banned by order of the NJ Forest Fire Service. Firewood is available for purchase at the Bull's Island office.
GATE LOCKING
For camper protection, the entrance gate is fitted with a combination lock. The combination will be provided to registered campers. Please secure the gate when you enter or leave the area. Visitors are permitted between 8 am and 8 pm.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The full text of rules (NJAC 7:2-1 et. seq.) is posted at the Bull's Island office and is available upon request.

NOTE: Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. No pets are permitted in the campground.
BOATING
A launching ramp provides boat access to the Delaware River. Canoes and rowboats may be used in both the river and canal. Power boats are only permitted in the river.

Canoe and Kayak Rentals
There are canoe/kayak liveries within easy driving distance. Inquire at the park office for information.
FISHING
Fishing in the D & R Canal and Delaware River is subject to all New Jersey Fishing Laws.
Canal: Catfish, eel, bass and trout.
River: Catfish, bass, pickerel, sunfish, suckers, carp and shad.
NATURAL AREA
Two unique forest types exist at Bulls Island, the Sycamor River Birch type and the Elm-Silver Maple type. The Island provides an excellent area for nature observations. It also contains one of the largest Ostrich Fern stands and many interesting species of birds and mammals.
