HUNTING

The New Jersey State Park Service supports the mission of the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Both agencies endeavor to protect and manage the State's fish and wildlife to maximize their long-term biological, recreational and economic values for all New Jerseyans. Sportspersons must comply with all current NJ Fish and Wildlife regulations as noted in the hunting digest.

Know Before You Go!

Hunting is one of the many activities offered at Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park. Hunters are responsible for knowing the hunting regulations within the state park, be sure to review maps, zone descriptions and timing restrictions prior to venturing to the site. The hunting areas may have trails open to the public during the hunting season~ be aware for hikers, bikers,  and horseback riders may be traveling through.

Be advised that there is NO HUNTING PERMITTED ON SUNDAYS within lands managed by the NJ State Park Service.

2020-2021 HUNTING SEASON INFORMATION FOR SIX MILE RUN:

NJ State Park issued permits are available for deer bowhunters to access over 2,000 acres of land within Six Mile Run Reservoir Site. There are also a limited number of firearm permits available for a limited area within the Six Mile Run Reservoir Site. Please carefully read the instructions below to apply for either a bow or firearm permit.

PLEASE NOTE:  Hunters MUST APPLY FOR A PARK PERMIT to hunt anywhere within Six Mile Run. There will be no limit on the number of bow permits but there will be limit of 15 Firearm Permits via a RANDOM lottery pool as described below. BE ADVISED:  Due to COVID-19, the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Office is currently closed to the public and the staff will be unable to process permits in person for the 2020/2021 deer hunting season. Applications for the 2020/2021 deer hunting season will ONLY be accepted through mail to the address below or via direct email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Applications must be legible and include copies of your current hunting license and government issued identification (ex. driver’s license). Season permits will be mailed to applicants who submit completed applications along with the copies of the necessary documents.

2020/2021 CHANGES TO SIX MILE RUN RESERVOIR DEER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM:
Firearm permits will be issued via a lottery system. Please see below for details.

Stands are prohibited from being placed directly on Six Mile Run Reservoir property lines or in the view-shed of residents residing directly adjacent to Six Mile Run Reservoir Site.

BOW SEASON:  There will be NO LIMIT on the number of bow permits issued for Six Mile Run. Completed applications with copies of your current hunting firearm license and government issued identification must be submitted to the park office via email or US Postal Service and received by September 15, 2020. Fifteen completed applications will be drawn at random and the lottery winners for this season will be notified by September 22, 2020. Six Mile Run Hunting Map

Deer Hunting

Designated areas of the park are open to deer hunting during Fall, Permit and Winter Bow. Deer Management Zone 14 regulations apply. The park is closed to deer hunting at all other seasons. 

Turkey Hunting


Spring and Fall Turkey Hunting, Bow Only, is permitted. Zone 11 Management regulations apply.
